Test Engineer (RF)

United Kingdom • Cambridge • FULL-TIME • HYBRID

CRFS are looking for an RF Test Engineer who loves solving tough problems with precision — someone who thrives in the lab and isn’t afraid to get their boots dirty in the field. You’ll be the critical link between design and deployment, validating cutting-edge RF hardware that directly supports national security operations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Own the validation and performance testing of CRFS’s RF hardware and integrated systems.
  • Build and execute test plans that push our systems to their limits — from lab bench measurements to field trials.
  • Use spectrum analysers, VNAs, and diagnostic software to find and fix performance issues before they ever reach the customer.
  • Automate test processes using Python or C/C++ to accelerate production and reliability testing.
  • Collaborate with hardware, embedded, and software engineers to hunt down elusive bugs and optimise system behaviour.
  • Produce crisp, insightful test documentation and reports that feed straight back into design improvements.
  • Occasionally hit the road for field testing: real RF environments, real data, real results.

What you’ll bring

  • Degree (or equivalent experience) in Electronics, RF, or Systems Engineering.
  • Proven hands-on experience testing RF hardware, receivers, or embedded systems.
  • Familiarity with automated testing or scripting (Python preferred).
  • Strong communication and documentation skills — clarity under pressure.

Bonus:

  • Knowledge of defence or telecom standards (MIL-STD, DEF-STAN, IEEE).
  • Experience with field validation, EMC, or RF performance testing in complex environments.

Why you’ll love it here

  • Purpose with edge: your work underpins missions that keep people and assets safe.
  • Small team, big impact: direct access to world-class engineers and decision-makers.
  • Hybrid & flexible: balance hands-on lab work with remote analysis.
  • Innovation culture: no bureaucracy, just collaboration and the freedom to experiment.
