A new approach to radio receiver technology

RFeye in portable field case

CRFS was set up to create and commercialise a new type of radio receiver, designed specifically for the purpose of continuous remote real-time monitoring and surveillance of the radio spectrum. We set ourselves the challenge of developing a receiver that could be cost-efffectively deployed in the field, standalone or as part of a distributed network, and that would match the RF performance of high end spectrum analysers. It had to meet the following requirements:

  • Rugged, lightweight, low power, fully IP rated, designed to operate in hostile environments
  • Low noise figure, high sensitivity and exceptionally low spurious components for reliable detection of low power signals
  • Rapid broadband sweeping for high probability of signal intercept
  • Advanced direction finding capability for accurate geolocation of suspicious or unauthorised transmitters
  • High speed real-time access, fast efficient communications and data processing
  • Flexible deployments in fixed, mobile or man-portable systems
  • Powerful application and database tools for real-time visualisation of spectrum usage and/or post-event mapping and analysis
  • Open API, fully programmable with C, C# and C++ for running customer applications
